Celebrity Makeup Trend SS 2011: Hot Pink Lips
Remember when bold lips were popping up all over the Spring/Summer 2011 runways (here)? From Jil Sander to Fendi and Diane Von Furstenberg, it was obvious, hot pink (and we are talkin’ hot) was in.

Usually celebrities makeup artists will pick up on a runway trend and tame it down for their clients in order to be more appropriate for the red carpet. Not this time! As evidenced by the growing number of celeb faces wearing neon pink lips lately, it’s apparent that bolder=better.

Kelly Osbourne is a huge fan of the trend, as she has been seen rockin’ hot pink lips multiple times over the past several months. On the left, she wears a bright fuschia lipstick at the Tribeca Film Festival and on the right, she pairs her neon pout with a fierce cat eye and ponytail for the Maxim Hot 100 party.
Jessica Szohr at the Love, Wedding Marriage premiere this month. This color looks great on her tan skin.
Gisele Bundchen at the Robin Hood Foundation Gala. She kept the rest of her look very simple, letting her lips take center stage.
Another fan of the trend, Emma Stone! I love the pop of pink against her pale skin. On the left, she wore fuschia lipstick at the Met Gala, which looked fantastic against her muted Lanvin dress. On the right she was spotted at the Conde Nast Traveler Annual Hot Party with a slightly different shade of pink and a swipe of black liquid liner.

Milla Jovovich at the AmFAR Gala in Cannes this month.

Kristen Dunst at the AmFAR Gala in Cannes.

Taylor Swift finally took a break from the red lip she lovesss to wear on the red carpet and decided to go with hot pink instead. We like.

Kat Graham at the Young Hollywood Awards.

Jennifer Hudson at her album release party.

Gwen Stefani chose to wear hot pink lipstick and a black smokey eye to the Tree of Life premiere in Cannes. You’d think this combination would leave you looking like a $2 hooker but I’m surprised at how well she pulled it off! Only Gwen..
Get The Look:
The best thing about this trend is that it is extremely versatile- every skintone can pull off a bright pink lip! From paler girls, like Emma Stone, to olive skinned beauties like Jessica Szohr, to deep complexions like Jennifer Hudson, it looks amazing on everyone!
Check out my favorite hot pink lipsticks:

-Obssesive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Anime is my absolute favorite product for this look!! It’s so pigmented and bright. The perfect neon pink.
-Illamasqua’s Avenge Lipstick is a creamy yet matte hot pink.
-NARS Carthage Pure Matte Lipstick is a fantastic, full coverage hot pink.
-MAC Girl About Town is a little bit of a deeper hot pink. It’s opaque but still as a bit of a sheen to it, if you’re not one for matte lips.
What do you think of hot pink lips? Will you be wearing them this summer or leaving it to the celebs?
The Met Gala 2011 Trend: Deep Red Lips
While the dresses were predominately nude, the lips at the 2011 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala were anything but!
Bold lips have been on our trend forecast for Spring (here) ever since they popped up all over the S/S 2011 runways. While the celebs definitely rocked the bold at the Met Gala, I just expected a little brightness as well. Emma Stone and Elizabeth Banks (below) went all out with the brights, but many of the other stars opted for deep red lips.

Spring/Summer 2011 Trend: Bold Lips

Paul Costelloe SS 2011
While the fashion world is getting ready to show their Fall/Winter 2011 collections, the rest of the world is eagerly anticipating Spring! What better way to beat the winter blues, than by jumping into the warmer months with a bold, colorful lip?
Check out the bold lips that were all over the Spring/Summer 2011 shows:

In Milan, Jill Sander’s models wore a matte magenta lipstick.

At the Marni show, Tom Pecheux decided on a bright orange lip (he used MAC Morange lipstick).

Hot pink and coral lips were seen on the Fendi runway in Milan.

At Diane Von Furstenberg, James Kaliardos used MAC’s Pro Chromographic pencil in Process Magenta with MAC’s Magenta Madness pigment layered over.
Trend Alert: Ombre Hair
Remember the days when dark roots were frowned upon? This season, turn that frown upside down and embrace the hottest hair trend of the moment, Ombre hair!

Ombre hair is a super low maintenance approach to coloring your locks. It starts out dark at the roots and gradually becomes lighter toward the tips. It gives off a relaxed attitude and when done right, not only looks fantastic but can save you money because you won’t be needing that 6-week touch-up!

Model Lily Alridge was seen sporting the Ombre Trend at the Victoria Secret 2010 Fashion Show earlier this week. I love how it looks on her!

Keep it subtle!
Too much of a color contrast can take the look from laid back chic, to sloppy. The slight gradation of color on Sarah Jessica Parker (above), Ashley Tisdale and Hilary Duff (below) looks fantastic.

See a Professional!
When going Ombre for the first time, let a pro handle it. While the trend is supposed to look effortless, it can actually be quite difficult to achieve. The key to this look is the natural fade from dark to light which is not easy to do on your own.
What Not To Do:

Seems like Drew Barrymore and Ashlee Simpson have taken the trend a little too seriously. The contrast of colors from root to tip looks very harsh.
What Do You Think? Would You Rock Ombre Hair?
Spring 2011 Trend: C-Shaped Blush
One of my favorite makeup trends to emerge on the Spring 2011 runways is the “temple to cheek” blush, spotted everywhere from Madrid to Milan. In most cases, makeup artists applied color in a “C” shape from the model’s temples to the apples of their cheeks, and blended well for a seamless transition. Love it!!

At the Moschino show in Milan, models wore orange blush that not only was applied in the C shape, but was also blended onto the eyelids for a monochrome look.

I love the rosy pink blush at Christian Siriano’s show in New York. This is probably my favorite variation of the trend.

Richard Nicoll’s show during Londons Fashion Week featured models wearing an ochre colored blush applied just above the temples, and around onto the cheeks.

Edition by Georges Chakra showed a much more subdued and wearable version of the trend.

Hot pink was the color of choice on Lydia Delgado’s runway in Madrid.

Orange Lips are Here to Stay!

Summer 2010 Trend: Orange Lips!

The Spring/Summer 2010 runway was packed with orange pouts from Prada, to Twinkle by Wenlan, to Giambattista Valli, and everywhere in between! There is no denying orange as the must have color for lips this Summer!

Vogue Australia (top and bottom) features one of my favorite models rocking a neon orange lip and pink tips! To get the exact lip look that Abbey is wearing on the cover, mix MAC’s Lipmix in Orange, and their lipstick in CB96!
**The Orange Lipmix is the same color Pradas makeup artists used for their S/S 2010 show too! **

Even celebs are falling in love with orange lips! From left to right: Chloe Sevigny, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez.

The ad that started it all… Prada’s Spring/Summer ads feature models wearing bright orange, glossy lips. To get the look Pat McGrath used Makeup For Ever’s lacquered lipstick in 204, mixed with CoverGirl’s Shineblast in orange.

HOW TO PULL OFF ORANGE LIPS:
Orange is definitely an intimidating color for many but it is surprisingly wearable! Check out these 5 tips on how to make orange work for you!
1. Keep the Rest of Your Face Clean
The key to making a bold lip work is by keeping it the focal point of your look. With too much going on, you’ll look overdone and silly. Add a shimmery champagne eyeshadow, several coats of mascara and some bronzer and you’ll be good to go!
2. Mix It!
I love mixing lip colors!! You can make any lipstick work for you by mixing it in other colors. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars are PERFECT for this!! Try their Safety Orange with a drop of red or pink and you’ll be surprised how easy it is to find a shade of orange that works for you!

3. Start with Coral
Coral is universally flattering and it is still technically orange, just a lot more subdued and less intimidating. Check out my post on how to wear coral (here)!
5. Consider your Skintone
Fair Skin: If you have fair skin, go for a sheer formula or a gloss. Peach tones also look great on pale complexions.
Medium/Olive Skin: Medium and Olive Skintones can pull off a sheer gloss as well as vibrant color-packed orange. It’s all about what you feel more comfortable in.
Dark Skin: I love a bright orange lip on darker skintones! It pops really well and you can go really bold. Generally, warmer shades of orange look best.
5. Go for Gloss
An orangey gloss is much less vibrant and a lot more wearable than a heavily pigmented lipstick. You’ll still get a hint of color and it looks amazing with a Summer tan!

Trend Alert: Side Braids
The Side Braid:
The Hottest Hairstyle This Spring/Summer

Alexander Wang S/S 2010
Ok, I admit it, I’m a little behind on reporting this trend but since I’m really loving braids at the moment, I figured there’s nothing wrong with being a little bit fashionably late.
The side braid frenzy all started on Alexander Wang’s Spring/Summer 2010 runway. Hairstyling master, Guido Palau gave each model a long, messy braid which rested on their left shoulder. To create this style, Guido was inspired by the seventies and early eighties; he added extensions in the model’s hair because he says “girls of that period didn’t really cut their hair.”

Top: Rachel McAdams, Leona Lewis. Bottom: Selena Gomez
Soon after the Spring/Summer Fashion Weeks came to an end, celebs all over began adopting this trend and making it their own! Rachel McAdams kept the style messy, while Leona Lewis switched it up by making her side braid into a fishtail style plait. Selena Gomez kept the style young by abandoning the matte texture seen on the runway and making her style shiny and fresh.

Polish supermodel, Kasia Struss was seen sporting a Rapunzel-like, platinum side braid in a recent issue of Vogue Korea. No coincidence here, Guido Palau was responsible for this look as well.

Elle Netherland’s recent June 2010 issue features Nimue Smit on the cover wearing a crimped side braid!
.
To Get the Messy Side Braid Look:
1. The original style seen on the runway is very matte, so start off by spraying or sprinkling a mattifier into your hair. I love Osis’ Dust it Mattifying Powder. It gives your hair the matte texture we want, while also giving you tons of body! Great for the messy/big look.
2. If your hair lacks volume, tease it up near the hairline and on the sides. The look is supposed to be messy so don’t worry about making it perfect.
3. Part your hair to side and bring it all around to the opposite side that you just parted it.
4. Now it’s time to braid! (I’m assuming you know how to do a simple braid but if not check out this simple picture tutorial here).
5. Secure the end with a small hair tie or ribbon and you’re good to go!
2010 Nail Trend Alert: Greige

Greige Craze
Ever since singer-songwriter, Lily Allen, wore this season’s hottest nail color at Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2010 Fashion Show, everyone has been lusting over “greige” nailpolish! Greige, a mixture of grey and beige (with a hint of purple), has been popping up on the fingers of models and celebs ever since, and it is not going away any time soon!
.

Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2010 Runway. The show that started the greige craze! Models are wearing Chanel’s Particuliere polish.

Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2010 Runway. Models wore 5 different shades of “greige,” ranging from really light to superdark.

From the runways to the red carpet, Academy Award winner, Sandra Bullock, was seen sporting greige nails when she won her Golden Globe for best actress!! Sandra is also wearing Chanel’s polish in “Particuliere.”

Always one to set trends, Rihanna was seen wearing greige polish late last year at her Good Morning America performance. Rihanna’s nail artist, Kimmie Kyees painted the singer’s nails “Love Em’ Leave Em’” by Color Club.
.
Need Some Greige In Your Life?? I Recommend…
