Illamasqua Wants to Make Sure You Look Good in Your Coffin

Illamasqua Wants to Make Sure You Look Good in Your Coffin

July 9, 2011 in Beauty News, News

British makeup brand, Illamasqua has recently partnered with funeral home Leverton & Sons to provide us with one last, professionally applied makeup application after we die.

“The Final Act of Self-Expression” is a service for those who love to self-express with makeup. Why should it be any different when you’re dead? It doesn’t. Now, you have the opportunity to have a  professional Illamasqua makeup artist will come to the funeral home and put your final face on for the afterlife. Lord knows you’re gonna need some bronzer.

Illamasqua’s website tries really hard to make us understand by explaining:

“The rite of passage to the afterlife has been of central importance to human culture for thousands of years. To have the best mahogany, the finest lining, the best stallions… are today chosen in tribute to the life lived. To wear the most fabulous make-up applied by a professionally trained make-up artist for your final journey is the ultimate statement of celebration.”

The service costs $720 and is only available in London.

I mean, I think I understand what they’re trying to do. It’s still weird though.

What do you think?? Would you do it??

Tom Ford 2 Tom Ford to Release a Full Color Collection

Tom Ford is launching a full cosmetics collection!

Ford tells WWD that he loves a strong eye and mouth for night, as well has full eyebrows (“the key to a youthful look”) and that’s exactly the direction makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury went while doing the ad campaigns.

In addition to creating the line, Ford also appears in the ads alongside Ms. Stone (who looks gorgeous btw!!)

“I’m not in the ads because I’m vain,” Ford tells WWD “A lot of people still don’t know who I am, and the product sells better with me in the ads.”

The 132 piece collection will be sold in high end stores such as Bergdorf Goodman as well as some Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue locations.

MAC Re Signs Lady Gaga for Viva Glam Campaign Lady Gaga and MAC Team Up Again For AIDS Awareness

Lady Gaga is taking her role as MAC Vivia Glam Spokesperson to the next level with her new campaign “Glam This Way,” dedicated to raising awareness about AIDS. It’s no secret that Gaga fans are some of the most dedicated super fans out there, so she is relying on her “Little Monsters” to spread the word about this important issue.

To do so, she is inviting everyone to log onto VivaGlam.com to upload a photo of themselves. Next, spread the message of AIDS awareness throughout all the social networking sites and the more you do, the bigger your photo will appear on the site.

In the end, the photos will be printed onto a couture creation that her fashion stylist and best friend, Nicola Formichetti will create and Gaga will wear her fan’s faces on her body.

inglot Inglot Finally Launches Their Online Store

Inglot is one of my favorite new (new to me, not the market) brands! I was introduced to them last year at The Makeup Show and have been dying to add more of their products to my kit. Unfortunately, they are only available in select locations which pretty much limited my ability to try more stuff…. until now!

Inglot has finally launched their highly anticipated USA Online Store! Now you can purchase any of their products from the comfort of your own home (I highly recommend the Lip Paints and creme blushes) icon smile Inglot Finally Launches Their Online Store

The Makeup Show LA 2011 Recap

The Makeup Show LA 2011 Recap

March 6, 2011 in Beauty News, News

Last weekend, The Makeup Show LA took over the California Market Center, as over 4,000 attendees showed up to shop insane deals, rub elbows with their favorite artists and learn a few new tricks. I attended on Saturday and I definitely feel like this was The Makeup Show LA’s best year yet!

One of my favorite things about this show in particular, was that the retailers were pretty much the “cream of the crop.” It was as if  The Makeup Show selectively handpicked the companies that attended, rather giving anyone with glitter decals a booth icon wink The Makeup Show LA 2011 Recap Another thing that struck me, was that the crowd actually seemed to consist of working professionals (for the most part). I didn’t find myself elbowing through a sea of 18 year olds wearing blue and green eyeshadow up to their brow bones, in order to check out the new Lip Tars.. I even saw Billy B walking around doing a little bit of shopping, while being mobbed by fans lol.

The Keynote Speakers were the highlight of my day! The artists that spoke this year are some of my favorite makeup artists, Being able to listen to their stories and watch them demo a look was a really cool experience.

kristofer buckle The Makeup Show LA 2011 RecapKristopher Buckle

Being a huge Kristofer Buckle fan, I made sure to get there early for his talk. He was extremely engaging, funny and so generous with the information he gave us. He showed an impressive slideshow and video reel of his work and even recreated a look from Christina Aguilera’s Not Myself Tonight music video! He shared several of his tips, favorite products and gave us the scoop on what he used to create Christina’s custom lashes not only in the Not Myself music video, but for Burlesque as well!

Three Tips From Kristofer:

1. Kristofer uses LipSense lip colors because they “do not budge.” He used them on tour with Mariah Carey and regularly with Christina Aguilera.

2. The red lip in Christina Aguilera’s Candy Man video is MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick.

3. Several of the products he used on Christina in Not Myself Tonight include Dermacolor foundation, black La Femme eyeshadow, Maybelline Great Lash mascara, MAC’s cherry lipliner. The eye spikes are cardboard with Swarovski crystals glued on!

Pati Dubroff

After Kristofer Buckle, Pati Dubroff spoke before running off to prep some clients for the Academy Awards! Pati was extremely inspirational, she was so humble and down to earth. Pati’s style is very natural, and it was interesting to contrast her work with Kristofer’s. Their styles are so different, yet they both are among the top celebrity artists working today.

Three Tips From Pati:

1. Pati prefers to use natural products when she can. She loves Clark’s Botanicals for skincare.

2. Her go-to loose powder is Sensai-Kanebo. (Which she uses very sparingly!)

3.  Pati loves using a Duo Fibre (or skunk brush) for foundation. She loves the airflow through the brush and says it “whips” the foundation onto the skin.
