Sam Fine Named New Creative Director of Fashion Fair Cosmetics

Celebrity makeup guru, Sam Fine, has just signed on to be the new Creative Director of Fashion Fair, a global prestige cosmetics brand for women of color. As part of his new role, Fine, who’s client list includes Iman, Queen Latifah and Jennifer Hudson, will oversee the creation of new products, expand the brand’s color pallette as well as make in-store appearances.

In a statement, Clarissa Wilson, the President of Fashion Fair comments on their newest Creative Director stating,

“Sam Fine is a true artist who understands women of color and has built an illustrious career unparalleled in the industry. His experience in the fashion editorial world with global beauty brands and celebrities will translate wonderfully with Fashion Fair, and our consumers will reap the benefits. People generally have a lot of questions they want answered before undergoing plastic surgery. Along with the standard questions of what procedure might be appropriate, which doctor to trust, and how to go about preparing for and recovering from surgery, one of the biggest things that people think about is the permanence of a procedure. It actually isn’t unlike the thinking that goes into getting a tattoo… basically, you need to decide whether making a permanent change to your physical appearance is a good idea or not. Websites such as aboutplasticsurgery.com have lots of information about different procedures that can probably help you to decide if you will be happy with permanent changes…. But what about permanent makeup?

What Is Permanent Makeup?

There is a procedure, officially known as “micropigmentation,” that, for all intents and purposes, permanently affects patients’ skin as if it were makeup. This almost seems impossible at first; any kind of makeup, after all, will eventually wear off. However, if you think about this procedure as something done beneath the skin rather than on the surface, it begins to make more sense.

As you probably know, your skin “pigment” is basically something that refers to its color and shade. A micropigmentation procedure actually involves poking a tiny needle into the skin many, many times to position what amounts to an artificial pigment beneath the skin. Using this type of procedure, a doctor can actually adjust the color and shade of your skin at different places on your face.

Pro: Time and Convenience

The clearest benefit of undergoing a micropigmentation procedure is convenience. Many women spend a good amount of time every morning, or before going out at night. With “permanent makeup” – around your eyes, along your eyebrows, on your cheeks, or wherever else – all of this time can be saved, and you can be ready to start your day or head out on the town at a moment’s notice.

Con: Permanence

The major deterrent, of course, is permanence, as is often the case with plastic surgery. While you will theoretically always look your best with permanent makeup, you may find that over time it isn’t the right look for you. Some women, at a certain point, prefer to allow at least some natural aging, and would worry about looking artificial with permanently polished facial features.

In the end, of course, the choice is up to you. Just be careful to research any procedure you are considering, and you will be happy with your decision.

Kate Winslet’s Limited Edition Lancome Collection to Benefit Autism

Kate Winslet is teaming up with Lancome once again, but this time for a good cause! She will be releasing a small, limited edition collection to raise awareness and money for her charity, The Golden Hat. The Golden Hat is an organization which gives children with Autism the opportunity to learn to communicate effectively, and also receive education and job training. Lancome will donate up to 150,000 euros from the collection’s sales to this cause.

The Golden Hat collection will be available nationwide November 1, 2011

Unfortunately, there are not that many opportunities to receive one; however, The Powder Group and the Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry have teamed up to present the Kelly Gleason Scholarship for the Makeup Arts 2011 and will send one lucky applicant to makeup school for free!

What it is:

Kelly Gleason was an Emmy winning makeup artist who lost her battle with cancer in 2007. This scholarship was created to honor Kelly’s career and passion for makeup by giving others an opportunity to follow their dreams. British makeup brand, Illamasqua has recently partnered with funeral home Leverton & Sons to provide us with one last, professionally applied makeup application after we die.

“The Final Act of Self-Expression” is a service for those who love to self-express with makeup. Why should it be any different when you’re dead? It doesn’t. Now, you have the opportunity to have a professional Illamasqua makeup artist will come to the funeral home and put your final face on for the afterlife. Lord knows you’re gonna need some bronzer.

Illamasqua’s website tries really hard to make us understand by explaining:

“The rite of passage to the afterlife has been of central importance to human culture for thousands of years. I mean, I think I understand what they’re trying to do. It’s still weird though.
